Metal Powder-based Additive Manufacturing

Wednesday 11th October 2017

A little background for you:

For the first time, this year’s Enlighten Conference will feature a programme dedicated to metal powder-based additive manufacturing (AM). The aim of the programme is to provide a platform for technical discussion of areas related to metal powder based AM processes and to encourage better communication and co-operation between leading and upcoming academics and industrialists in the field. The programme is open to all metal powder based AM processes, including selective laser melting, electron beam melting and direct energy deposition.

Laser stability and control are central to recent advances in metal AM machine speed and the quality of resulting parts; thus an added aim of this programme is to encourage greater interaction between those involved in laser systems, optics and laser-powder interactions and those applying such laser systems in AM processes.

The programme will aim to bring together users of metal AM from both industry and academia for a day of talks and discussion, with a poster session on metal AM research in the afternoon.

It is free to attend this meeting and the rest of the conference. Registration gives you full access to two exhibitions, Photonex and Vacuum Expo, as well.

Technologies in the exhibitions:

Exhibitors will have on display: materials, process equipment (e.g. thermal CVD), Raman and AFM systems for materials synthesis and analysis, characterization and thickness measurement and more.

Other meetings you may like to know about:

Wednesday & Thursday: High Power Diode Lasers & Systems
Thursday Optical Metrology for Manufacturing

The programme co-chairs are Professor Ian Aschroft from the University of Nottingham and Professor Johannes Schleifenbaum from the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology and Aachen University. This is the first time Prof. Ashcroft and Prof. Schleifenbaum have come together to organise a meeting to contribute to the Enlighten Conference. They aim to provide an opportunity for metal AM users, from both the industrial and academic sectors, to share information and potentially form new and productive partnerships.
