Tom Wilkie

Dr Tom Wilkie is Executive Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Europa Science Ltd, the Cambridge-based publishers of Electro Optics magazine.

Dr Tom Wilkie, Europa Science

Tom began his career in mathematics and theoretical physics, moved into technical journalism, and then worked for the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency. He joined the staff of New Scientist magazine as a senior editor before becoming the Science Editor of the newly-launched Independent newspaper in London, UK, where he won several awards for science writing.

In 1996, he went to the Wellcome Trust, the world’s largest biomedical research charity. He joined Scientific Computing World magazine as editor in 2000, and now has overall editorial responsibility for all five of Europa Science’s publications. He is the author of three books.

Dr Nick Barnett, Ocean Optics

Dr Nick Barnett is the Business Development Manager for the Ocean Optics European organisation and a member of Ocean’s global product innovation team. He has worked for Ocean Optics for ten years and prior to that worked for several years in the biomedical industry working on optical sensors and near infrared spectroscopy.
Fiona Evans, Qioptiq

Fiona Evans, Business Development Manager, Qioptiq

Fiona is the Business Development Manager for the Qioptiq laser and fiber division with responsibilities to support growth in Europe, USA and the Far East. For the last six years she has worked with this Qioptiq team to focus on innovating products to solve real life customer issues in such areas as gene sequencing, haematology and thin film metrology. She currently leads key account management teams that provide local support to major global customers at multiple sites in USA, Europe and Asia. Before this she spent four years with a leading photonics distributor in the UK working on a wide range of applications including laser material processing, ophthalmology, laser safety and photodynamic therapy. After studying for a physics degree at the University of Kent she started her career with several years at independent telecoms installation companies bringing phone and data to universities and businesses throughout the UK.

Dr. Robin Huang, TeraDiode

Dr. Huang, is a co-founder of TeraDiode and a Member of the Board of Directors. He is responsible for business development for the government market and contributes to new innovations. Prior to joining TeraDiode in October 2009, Dr. Huang was a Technical Staff Member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. He investigated and led Department of Defense programs on electro-optical materials and devices for high power semiconductor lasers, thermophotovoltaic devices, mid-IR diode lasers, quantum cascade lasers and VCSELs. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and LEOS, and serves as a reviewer for many professional journals in electronics and photonics. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and an S.B. in Physics with Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

Dr. Jörg Neukum, DILAS Diodenlaser GmbH

Dr. Jörg Neukum studied Physics at Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, and did his doctor’s degree in the field of rare-earth spectroscopy. After different positions within the high-power diode laser industry, he is now responsible for marketing and the worldwide sales at DILAS Diodenlaser GmbH since 2004. He is furthermore in charge of the business unit DILAS Industrial Laser Systems.
Robert Yeo

Robert Yeo, Pro-Lite Technology LLP

Robert is an optical physicist educated to Masters level. Robert was appointed Managing Director of the light measurement specialists, Labsphere Ltd in 1996 and in 2002 became a founding partner in Pro-Lite Technology LLP.

Robert has worked in the field of optical radiation measurement, radiometry and photometry since 1990. Robert is an active member of the UK Chapter of the Society for Information Display (SID) and the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL) Optical Radiation Measurement (ORM) Club. Robert has served as a technical specialist on several standardising committees which lead to the development of British and European standards that address laser safety and the testing of fabrics for ultraviolet transmittance and sun protection factor. He has also contributed to the development of an NPL Best Practice Guide for the Measurement of LED Clusters.
