Brian J Ford is a chartered biologist, university fellow, author, lecturer and broadcaster. He has published much research on microbiology and microscopy over the last 40 years. As a broadcaster, his BBC series include ‘Computer Challenge’ and ‘Food for Thought’ (on television) and ‘Where Are You Taking Us?’ and ‘Science Now’ (on radio). He is a contributor to programmes ranging from ‘Any Questions?’ to the ‘Today’ programme and, with Lady Antonia Fraser, on ‘Round Britain Quiz’. He has written over 30 books, recent examples including:
- Future of Food
- Genes, the Fight for Life
- The Secret Language of Life which has already been translated into numerous overseas editions, including German, Lithuanian, Polish and Chinese.
- He recently edited GM Crops, the Scientists Speak
Brian’s research has been published in journals including New Scientist, Scientific American, Nature, The Microscope and the British Medical Journal. He has written for The Times and The Guardian, has been nominated by the BBC for the Italia Prize, was recently awarded the inaugural August Kohler medal in the USA, was recently awarded a NESTA Fellowship, and has been nominated for the Faraday Medal of the Royal Society.
