Elforlight has now released the first in a series of compact, cost-effective, ultrafast lasers. The 'SWIFT' laser is a low cost, easy to use alternative to complex, expensive Ti-Sapphire systems. It is directly diode pumped for high efficiency, which removes the need for green DPSS laser or Argon Ion laser pump sources. High efficiency removes any requirement for water-cooling: conductive cooling even eliminates moving air from the surrounding environment. Self-starting modelocking and robust cavity design ensures ease of use.
Operating at a wavelength of 1040nm, the standard SWIFT laser emits 250fsec pulses at 100MHz . Powers exceed 250mW. Compared to 800nm, this wavelength produces less scattering and reduced photo-damage in tissue.Higher powers, harmonic variants and picosecond systems are planned for release over the next 12 months.
Applications include multi photon imaging, photoporation, nonlinear microscopy and single molecule spectroscopy.
