23.07.08 The Photonics KTN brings together experts from academia and industry as the development and application of photonic techniques continues to grow in diverse fields such as energy, aerospace, automotive and bio-medical. In each case, there is a strong need to look at the shape of future investment to ensure that the development is managed and sustained most effectively.
Many interested parties – individuals and organisations – are investing in these technologies in various ways, whether time, human and physical resources, in steering grant opportunities to overcoming various technical challenges, or investing in the future of the ingenuity and 'best of breed' technologies that the UK’s photonics community is famous for.
At the midpoint of 2008, many other economic sectors are under strain, often being stretched into shapes that many industry people expect City analysts will forecast against. However, many of the emerging technology sectors related to photonics seem as yet unharmed by the resurgent concern of recessional doom and gloom. It is likely that there are many discoveries and ingenious techniques that are worthwhile backing because they can answer some of the energy efficiency questions that are regularly being raised today: for example, is a (hydro-) carbon-free transportation system possible?
Photonex business focus
The KTN will be supporting our impressive and internationally influential R&D community in many ways to keep up momentum, overcome the challenges and to keep pace with global developments. The hot topics of financing our R&D community and consideration of the next likely evolutionary stage of technological development will be significant themes at the Photonex08 trade show and conference (15-16 October 2008, near Coventry), which will give visitors a great opportunity to network with those already accomplishing serial success in commercialising these technologies.
Also new at Photonex 08 will be the "Focus on Laser Engineering" and the “Technology Investment Forum”, which will have special exhibition areas within the Photonex show.
